This weeks this and that - things that are lighting me up - inspiration and exploration for your weekend
Card Pull: Son of Arrows
A card of energy, exploration, and joy. A young fox is hunting a small rodent under the snow in this iteration of the card from the Brady Tarot - excitement and eager for adventure, perhaps without planning - spontaneity. What do you want to explore? Or maybe what have you been overthinking that you just need to jump into?
I’m heading into my last week in Italy (for now). I’ve been here almost 2 months and it has flown by. Some things that lit me up this week in Florence [or Firenze].
Final light shows of this holiday season at the Ponte Vecchio
Scenes from my sunny walk/climb on New Year’s Day. Up early(ish) to beat the crowds, I walked the Arno from my neighborhood in Santa Rosa to climb to the Piazza Michelangelo and then to my favorite spot, the cemetery at the San Miniato Abbey.

Art I’ve never noticed before at the Abbey - it finds you when it’s meant.
Always look up.
This simple soup I’ve had on repeat during my time in Florence:
2 cloves garlic - minced
Several stalks of celery - diced
A medium carrot - peeled and diced
Olive oil
Salt
Broth (chicken or veg)
Pasta of choice (I like very small pastas for this one and lots of them!)
Pour some good olive oil in a soup pan and get it warm. Add the garlic and cook on low until soft and fragrant. Add the celery and carrots and a good pinch of salt and sauté until soft. Add the broth and bring to a low boil. Add pasta and cook until al dente.
You may want to add a small knob of butter.
Let sit for at least 10 mins. Dig in. Have with some great bread.
Select Spritz (a Venice spritz) - using Select - not as sweet as Aperol or bitter as Campari but just right. An olive instead of an orange slice. I’m obsessed. Recipe is in the link and I highly recommend giving it a go. Preferably on a sunny winters day by the sea.
Convos with my favorite barista, Lorenzo, at my local bistro in Santa Rosa.
Auguri friends!
