Welcome to Pied À Terre Life
Hi, I’m Michele Boyer, a long-time wine and food biz development professional. For years I’ve worked in fine wine, food, hospitality, and communications, alongside the best of the best in their fields. In 2018, at 50 years old, I went full-time freelance, packed my house into a storage unit, and started living what I call my ‘pied à terre life’, traveling and working remotely. In 2019, I left the country for 4 months in SE Asia, living in a different country every month. That trip extended through most of 2019 and included the UK, Portugal, Spain, and South Africa. Upon returning to the United States, I decided to keep life on the move and while COVID saw me living in the Pacific Northwest of the US for most of 2020 and 2021, I was still exploring locally in the United States. In the autumn of 2021, I booked a flight to Italy, and lived my very best life for 3 months, based in Puglia and Florence, while traveling around the country until the end of January 2022. In the autumn of 2022, I left the US again, going to Copenhagen, Denmark for a month, back to Florence, Italy for 2 months and spending the last month abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland.
I’ve always been asked by friends, clients, and acquaintances for my advice and recommendations on everything from wine for a dinner to developing itineraries for trips. I have collected files on files of amazing apartments, airbnb’s, experiences, hosts, restaurants, travel hacks, and more. Increasingly, I have been asked how I do what I do - from mindset to actual logistics - by people I’ve met while traveling.
I decided to start this substack to direct folks to one place where I can share all the people, places, and things I love most - and support the communities and people that have made me feel so welcome worldwide.
